The Baby in a Bag Sleeping Bag (not exactly the best name if you ask us) comes in five different fabric/weight choices and three sizing options ranging from 3 months to 3 years. Unlike many sleep sack brands, there are both a Minky Dot and a luxurious Royal Silk model (pictured) for an even softer nights sleep.
Soft and snuggly is a good way to describe this brand. All versions of this wearable blanket are machine-washable and dryer friendly on a low setting.
Material and Warmth
While many European sleep sacks are rated on the TOG scale (warmth measurement), the different versions of the Baby in a Bag Sleep Bags are based more upon material and individual preference than others.
For example, the models of the Grobag are based on the tog scale and designed accordingly. Here are all the different fabric options for the sleep sack:
1 TOG rating, perfect for room temperatures from 69 to 74 degrees. It is made of 2 layers and great for warm weather. Made from 100% cotton, the inner layer is soft jersey cotton and the outer is interlocking cotton, much like a sheet.
100% organic cotton lining and outer, this sack has a double layer inside making it slightly warmer than the summer model.
2.5 TOG rating suitable for room temperatures from 61 to 68 degrees. Minky Dot outer, jersey cotton inner lining. This is one of the softest bags inside and out.
2.5 TOG rating. With the exception of a plush lining, it is made exactly the same as the summer model. Great for those chilly nights.
Shell is 100% Charmeuse silk with a diamond-quilted silk inner lining with a plush filling.
Size small begins at 3 months or 10 lbs. It is important to choose the correct size for the safety of your baby and it’s recommended that you follow the minimum weight/maximum lengths when selecting the right sleeping bag. Also, it’s important to allow a small amount of shrinkage with proper washing.
Small – 3 to 11 months, min weight 10 lbs, max length 30 inches
Medium – 10-24 months, min weight 22 lbs, max length 38 inches
Large – 22 months to 3 Toddler, min weight 28 lbs, max length 45 inches
Design and Features
The Baby in a Bag sleep sacks features a unique upside down zipper. The opening is on the front of the bag and zips open from bottom to top which completely eliminates the risk of baby getting scratched or the zipper getting caught on anything. Designed for easy dressing, removal, and diaper changes, the exact construction can vary slightly depending on which model you choose.
For example, depending on the size and style of the bag, some have snaps above the shoulders and under the arms, some do not. The bags are durable and easy to clean in a cold wash with line drying or low heat. Line drying is recommended for the winter polyester filled bags.
What We Like
- Variety of fabric options
- Large sizes available
What We Don’t Like
- The name of the brand isn’t exactly the best choice (but it looks like they’re trying to advertise it a bit differently now)
- Limited amount of designs. Most are solid colors or plain
- Large difference between sizes
With the different options available for the Baby in a Bag Sleeping Bag, you are sure to find one that suits your needs. However, it can be a bit more time consuming sorting through the different materials, designs, sizes, etc.
Because the construction varies, it is important to do your homework before selecting one. For example, some come with snaps at the shoulders and underneath the arms but some do not.
Baby in a Bag has superior customer service who will help you select the right bag for your baby based on your individual needs. Of the mid price range sleeping sacks, this stands out in terms of durability and options.
